Virgin Islands Now Has 9 Household Income Categories
Prior to IMPLAN’s 2021 Data Year, the U.S. Census Bureau did not publish data on household counts by income group for U.S. Virgin Islands (VI); therefore, all relevant household data (household counts, spending patterns, saving, tax payments, etc.) in IMPLAN for VI were placed into a single household income category.
The U.S. Census Bureau’s 2020 Decennial Census provided household counts by income group for Puerto Rico (PR) but not for VI. Thus, we incorporated this additional household data (household counts, spending patterns, saving, tax payments, etc.) for each of the 9 IMPLAN household income groups for PR but not VI in IMPLAN’s 2020 data.
The 2020 Census of the U.S. Virgin Islands was released on October 20, 2022, now allowing us to provide these household data for each of the 9 IMPLAN household income groups for VI in IMPLAN’s 2021 data, just as we do for the standard U.S.-based IMPLAN models and PR.
Now Including State and Local Government Tax Impacts
The raw data for U.S. Territories do not include enough detail to break out the State and Local Government data into the sub-components in IMPLAN of State, County, Sub County (Special Districts), and Sub County (General). As a result, the 2019 and 2020 U.S. Territories data in IMPLAN inadvertently omitted all State and Local Government Tax Impacts. To remedy this, all State and Local Government Tax impacts are now placed in the State Tax Impacts section. This change is retroactive and will be ongoing.
