INTRODUCTION
IMPLAN is excited to announce the release of Forecasted Industry data for 2025-2034 in Data Library, released October 2026! IMPLAN provides users with U.S. data going all the way back to 2001 for all 528 Industries in the most recent Industry Set. Using this data, IMPLAN has developed a robust method by which to project economic indicators for all 528 Industries 10 years into the future. In this article we will introduce high-level details of the forecasted economic indicator data and provide considerations on how to find and use the data in IMPLAN.
WHAT DOES THE FORECASTED INDUSTRY DATA INCLUDE?
Using 2001-2024 Industry data, IMPLAN estimated sector specific forecasts for all 528 IMPLAN Industries from 2025 to 2034. These forecasts include for each Industry (where relevant):
- Wage and Salary Employment
- Proprietor Employment
- Output
- Employee Compensation
- Proprietor Income
- Taxes on Production and Imports
- Other Property Income
All monetary values are estimated in 2024 dollars. The Dollar Year filter in Data Library converts them to the year you choose (the default is the current year).
To derive these forecasted economic indicators, IMPLAN collaborated with Daniel Jerrett, PhD at SmartMacro Labs LLC to develop a COVID-adjusted Autoregressive Integrated Moving-Average (ARIMA) model for each Industry and variable combination. This means that there are differing ARIMA models for each economic indicator in a particular Industry. These Industry and indicator specific ARIMA models were then used to forecast from 2025-2034.
Additional steps were taken to keep definitions consistent. Further steps handled large year-over-year changes where the ARIMA model could not identify a long-term trend in the IMPLAN data. HOW DO YOU FIND FORECASTED INDUSTRY DATA IN DATA LIBRARY?
Steps at a glance
- Open Data Library — sign in to IMPLAN and go to Data Library.
- Use the dashboard — choose Dashboards > Forecasted Industry Data for a ready-made view.
- Set the filters — pick the Industry, Forecast Year, Dollar Year and Aggregation you need (see the table below).
- Build a custom query — choose Explores > Forecasted Industry Data to select your own fields.
Forecasted Industry data can be found in two places in Data Library: Dashboards > Forecasted Industry Data and Explores > Forecasted Industry Data. The Forecasted Industry Data dashboard includes five filters to segment the data:
