INTRODUCTION
In the Data Library, we have Tax data going back to 2001. This way you can quickly look at changes in Taxes by Year for your geography.
DATA OVERVIEW
The data are available for all states and counties in the U.S., for all years from 2001 to the 1-2 years prior to the latest year of IMPLAN data, depending on the time of purchase (does not include quarterly COVID 2020 data sets). The data include the State and County FIPS codes and description, the name of the unit of government, the type of transaction, the year, and the value. The following table shows a representative sample.

DATA SOURCE & METHODOLOGY
These are transfer payments data (e.g., taxes, fees, and government spending). The values for the state represent state-owned government activity, while the values for the counties represent locally-owned government activity.
We combine three data sources in increasing order of preference: The Census of Government, the Annual Survey of State and Local Government Finances, and the Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections.
- We start with values from the latest Census of Government:
- The Census data are released every 5 years and thus must be inflated to the same year as the annual survey data described below.
- We use the inflated Census of Government data to fill in gaps in the Annual Survey of State and Local Finances, as the latter does not cover all governments in the U.S.
- We then update any values from the Census of Government for which we have values from the Annual Survey of State and Local Government Finances. The lag in the survey data relative to the current IMPLAN data year can vary from 1 to 3 years.
- Finally, we replace and insert values from the Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections (deflated to the same year as the annual survey data). These data are current relative to the IMPLAN data.
There are no estimates of imputations made by IMPLAN in this data set.
The data represented here are used as distributors for data that one would find in the IMPLAN tool. As a result, they are not meant to be compared to what exists in IMPLAN SAMs/the Region Details area of IMPLAN.
