INTRODUCTION
In the Data Library, we have Demographic data going back to 2001. This way you can quickly look at changes by Year for your geography.
DATA OVERVIEW
The Demographic data are available for all counties and states in the U.S. for all IMPLAN Data Set Years. The data include, for each region and year, the number of households by 9 income categories, land area, population, population density, and Shannon-Weaver Index (S-W Index). The Shannon-Weaver Index is an index of economic diversity based on the distribution of employment among all possible Industries.
DATA SOURCES
Each year IMPLAN uses thousands of data points from more than 90 sources to create the IMPLAN datasets. Among our main data sources used for the Demographic Data are the following:
- Population counts are obtained from the Census Bureau’s Population and Housing Unit Estimates Datasets.
- The number of households by income group is calculated using the population data combined with data from Census tables “Household Income In The Past 12 Months” and “Average Household Size of Occupied Housing Units by Tenure”.
Additional details can be found in the article IMPLAN Data Sources.
